The extended carbine length remedies a primary complaint against the carbine version of the AR family of weapons of not enough gripping area at the front. For many, the solution is to set up the barrel with a low profile gas block and run a mid or rifle length handguard. However, if circumstances dictate that a standard barrel mounted front sight be used, the Apex Extended Carbine Handguard has a cutout portion for clearance around the front sight. This extends the useful gripping and accessory mounting area of the handguard.
