It’s a barrel nut. No issues torquing it on, wrench grabbed it tightly, no slipping or marring. Fit well with apex hand guard. Project done!!!

Now this is a barrel nut. Solid, smooth, well made and a perfect fit.

Threaded on to the upper with very little play. The machining was very clean and well executed. Finish was flat black as show. A very slight groove had to be filed into the ridges on the barrel nut to allow the gas tube to slide into the upper. This is also true with a factory DPMS barrel nut, so no big deal. Fits great, well machined, properly hardened - what else do you need?

I found this part to fit extremely well with a Rainer barrel and Knights SR-25 upper (also used a APEX 2360 AR10/308 DPMS 15.0" Ext. Rifle Length, 12.7 oz Hand guard)

I only bought this because I didn't want to cut the delta ring off my stock one. Installed it on my S&W M&P 10, worked perfectly, nice high quality product.
